The Department of Education (DepED) has recently issued an order last April 1, 2015 that includes the “new grading system” for K to 12 to be used for the upcoming SY 2015 to 2016.

The said DepEd issuance namely, DepEd Order No. 8 s.2015 is entitled “Policy Guidelines on Classroom Assessment for the K to 12 Basic Education Program”.

A new grading system will be used in assessing new learners and was described to be as a standard and competency-based grading system. Grades will be based on the weighted raw score of the learners’ summative assessments.

Accordingly, as stated in the said issuance, “The minimum grade needed to pass a specific learning area is 60, which is transmuted to 75 in the report card. The lowest mark that can appear on the report card is 60 for Quarterly Grades and Final Grades“
In a grading period, there is only one Quarterly Assessment but several instances that a learner should produce Written Work and demonstrate what they've learned through various Performance Tasks.
